Yesterday was an eventful day at day camp...yay for being sent up to the pool for the ENTIRE morning and just getting some sunshine, followed by making some sweet crafts all afternoon. However, can we just say...i knew i hated junior high for some reason, and i couldn't quite pinpoint why...now, i remember.
I suppose i must clarify...i have never worked fridays before, and have heard all the stories about how rude the kids are, how camp becomes more or less a dating service, and i guess i didn't really believe all these things were true. Oh but they are my friends! A few things i learned about kids yesterday:
-girls putting their phone numbers on the backs of their shirts is cool. maybe i should do that and advertise as well...
-apparently kids are not taught the meaning of the "n" word...and that it's ok to use whenever. yes, pretty much i was really sad/angry/appalled
-please and thank you are just not part of the vocabulary anymore
-you have to do everything for monday kids because they are 5, not self-sufficient, and don't really know any better. you have to do everything for friday kids because they expect everything handed to them and they are just lazy.
-little white kids trying to be cool/talk cool is pretty much hilarious..."i ain't gonna pick up that nasty trash"...ha.
-girls know a lot more than i did when i was that age. Here was the convo i witnessed: "Well, i thought this boy liked me, but i wasn't sure, so i thought i would just be a big tease, and then i found out he did like me, and so it was kinda bad"...WTF, i didn't even know what a tease was until i was in high school.
-fridays make me feel as though i am chaperoning a junior high dance
don't get me wrong, i love all of these kids so much, and i love my job...it's just so frustrating because they are at the bratty age where they think they know pretty much everything and have no respect for anyone else. But then, i suppose i shouldn't classify it as "they"...because not all of them are like this...only the vast majority. Anyone else agree???

Phone numbers on the back of their shirts?!?!? That's rediculous!! Dating Service DayCamp . . . It makes me feel really old to say it, but things have definitely changed since I was a Friday camper, years ago . . .
Kids know way too much much earlier now. It really is sad . . .
What a great post! It's all so true! Haha ... and not gonna lie, it made me chuckle in a kids are so much different and its not funny sort of way!
